Nadim Kassar in New York at the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles Annual Event

“Our association with the Women’s Empowerment Principles Leadership Group (WEPs LG) symbolizes our true commitment to support the economic empowerment of women”

Mr. Nadim Kassar, Vice Chairman General Manager of BLC Bank, left to New York to take part in the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles Annual Event that took  place on March 15 and 16th, 2016 at the Headquarters of the United Nations.

Under an initiative that is first of its kind, BLC Bank - represented by Mr. Kassar – joined the Women Empowerment Principles. This comes within the long standing commitment of BLC Bank to the seven UN Women Empowerment Principles. The leadership Group gathers 35 leaders from the Business and Academic worlds as well as civil society, to promote gender equality through: 1) social initiatives, 2) women leadership programs at the work place, 3) promotion of equal rights and 4) commitment to provide health, safety & well-being for all employees (Women AND Men).       

During the Leadership Group meeting prior to the conference, Mr. Kassar presented BLC Bank’s best practices.

BLC Bank has been a pioneer in supporting economic empowerment of women. The Bank is the only financial institution in the Middle East and Lebanon participating in the conference, reflecting furthermore it’s commitment in this area, and which success has been recognized worldwide.

Mr. Kassar said: "It is a milestone for Lebanon and our Bank in particular, to join and be part of one of the most recognized organizations internationally- the United Nations- and present our experience and expertise in ​​supporting and empowering women.” 

He also added: “Among the tangible actions in support of women entrepreneurs, BLC Bank has been recognizing for four years now the competence and success of women entrepreneurs through the Brilliant Lebanese Awards, in line with our belief that their role and SMEs are vital to the Lebanese economy”.  

Through this participation, Mr. Kassar aims to shed the light on the pioneering role of Lebanese women who have proven success in various fields. With the conference being days away from International Women’s day, Mr. Kassar seized the opportunity to invite both the public and private sectors towards more efforts in empowering women and increasing their role within the business community.
