Our Actions

Jouzour Loubnan
BLC Bank believes in Jouzour Loubnan mission to promote environmental awareness by planting in arid regions to increase the woodland area in Lebanon and develop wildlife habitats, as well as empowering local communities to manage and benefit from the project and promoting environmental awareness.

Since 2008, Jouzour Loubnan initiated several campaigns and projects to serve its mission. Thirty-two thousand trees were planted in Ouyoun El Siman - Kfardebian, Chabrouh - Faraya, Ehmej, Aynata – South Lebanon, Akoura and Tarchich with a survival rate over 90% to-date. All planted trees are maintained, irrigated and protected.
Moreover, since there are no plant nurseries producing Lebanese native species required to restore the diversified ecosystems of Lebanon’s mountains, Jouzour Loubnan took the initiative of creating the Laboratory for Seed Germination and Conservation (LSCG) dedicated to this purpose. Propagating these ‘new’ plants properly is a great challenge as well as a powerful tool to combat desertification and enhance biodiversity.
Furthermore, to raise the attention among the Lebanese population specially the young ones, Jouzour Loubnan conducted several awareness campaigns through public forestation campaigns open to volunteers, seminars in schools and universities, exhibits and through media coverage.

Our cooperation with Jouzour Loubnan is through a continuous support in funding and organizing forestation days by volunteers from the Bank.

Lebanon Mountain Trail
As part of our mission to support and preserve the environment in Lebanon, BLC Bank chose to be a Gold Sponsor to the Lebanese Mountain Trail association in its mission to:

  • Highlight the natural beauty and cultural wealth of Lebanon's mountains
  • Showcase the determination of the people of Lebanon to conserve this unique heritage
  • Bring communities closer together
  • Expand economic opportunities in rural areas through environmentally and socially responsible tourism.

This contribution was made first in 2010 ,along with the Ministry of Tourism, through the sponsorship of the book " A Million Steps – Discovering the Lebanon Mountain Trail" book and recently in 2011 through the 2 year adoption of the Ehden-WadiAnnoubine trail, a project aimed to clear and maintain that area.
The Lebanon Mountain Trail is the first long distance (440km) hiking trail in Lebanon which passes through 75 Lebanese villages from Qbaiyat to Marjeyoun and is divided into 26 segments, each segment representing 1 hiking day.

Bkessine Natural Reserve
BLC Bank has joined forces with DPNA – Development for People and Nature Association – in the launching of its Bkessine Natural Reserve project, which is set to be completed over two years, aiming to preserve Bkessine’s pine forest, known to be the largest in the Middle East, and at the same time capitalizing on its touristic aspects to create a leisure park.
